In one case that went before the Supreme Court in 2014 (R v B), a man was injured while working on his land when he fell into a well that had not been properly covered over by the owner. As a result of this accident he suffered from depression which meant he could no longer work as an electrician – his main source of income at that time – so he sought compensation for his altered life circumstances following this incident. The court agreed with him: ruling that it was reasonable for them both financially and emotionally
